We are starting a series on something that no one talks about. However we believe it needs to be talked about. Pornography. Why are we doing this? In our culture today, no one is totally safe from porn. Even the safest, most Jesus-centered homes can be invaded by pornography. 1 Peter says we need to be alert because of the danger of temptation and sin that Satan throws at us. By not talking about it, we make it easier for pornography to creep in and ensnare us. Sin thrives in darkness, and it wants to remain in the dark, but by taking it and dragging it into the light – the Light of Jesus – sin (in this case pornography) loses its power and cannot survive.
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” — 1 Peter 5:8
If porn is some hush-hush topic, then when someone is suddenly faced with that temptation they aren’t going to be properly alert and prepared to fight it. They may not even see it coming, and if they do, they don’t have a battle plan. The other problem with not openly talking about pornography is that if someone falls into it, they feel like they have nowhere to go. It was never something established as ok to talk about before, so how could they ever mention it now that they feel trapped there while they know they shouldn’t be?
We believe that Christians should intentionally talk about sex, in a mature and biblical way, and not make it some awkward or secretive subject. The world throws all their views and opinions in our face, and we need to counteract that with regularly looking at it in God’s way. We need to develop a healthy view and perspective of sex so that we will be properly equipped when we face temptations with porn, in relationships, or anything else that comes our way.
So in this series we are going to be looking at the issue of pornography, how it can sneak in subtly, and some of the pretty lies it presents itself with. We will also find the truth in God’s word, and see how He brings the truest freedom and satisfaction into our lives through Himself.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” — Ephesians 6:10-17

We’ll, my story isn’t great, and I don’t have much to say to both of you, but I feel that this is an amazing article!
I am struggling with sexual addiction as well, it can be hard to admit at times, but its true. I have been addicted to porn for over 3 years now, and about a year ago also became addicted to masturbation, but God is faithful! He does not leave me on my own, he supports me in my struggles. Ever since the start of the year I have been improving (not out of my own power, I get cold of fear when I remembered what happened before when I thought that I did this out of my own power. I immediately fell again.) I have decided to admit my addiction to my father (I am planning on doing it this very evening), it is very hard to admit it, the shear terror of rejection is enough to keep you hidden in your sins forever! But I keep this in mind all through the day ever since I decided to confess to my father: “The mission God have given me, is confessing, if my father (or anyone else) would ” reject” me afterwards, then that would be their concern, I would have accomplished my mission, besides, is there any results he cannot handle, and use to my benefit?”
Thanks for this post! Its been an amazing inspiration! Keep up the good work!
God bless!
