Those Days the Hurt Keeps Hurting


This is a quiet post…


A moment of stillness for those whose hearts are broken…


All our hearts have cracks in them; we have each been shattered in different ways.  Maybe you’re weeping right now; maybe your heart is frozen in stillness.  Perhaps the wounds have long turned to scars, or maybe you are still dripping from a sudden piercing that came too soon.  

I know the hurt may be too much, too deep for any tears to do justice to.  It is okay to still cry them out.  It is also okay to sit still in the silence.  Just because no tears come doesn’t mean the hurt isn’t great or isn’t real.  And maybe one day they will come, but even when they don’t, God still hears them and catches them.  He sits with you in the mourning.  He understands what it feels like because He has felt it Himself.  And when you can’t take it anymore, and you don’t know why this had to happen, and all you can do is yell, He remains with you then as well.  He will hold you even as you kick and wail and question, until you are ready to rest in His arms and breathe peace.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. – Matthew 5:4

He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering…

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. – 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

Whatever you are going through right now:  It is okay to be broken.  It is okay to hurt.  It is okay to not know what to do with it all.  There is no time-table you need to keep up with or particular order of steps to go through.  Just keep your eyes fixed on His through every moment, and you will make it.  

It will be okay.  It doesn’t mean everything will be like it was before — that’s not the point — but it can be okay without being the same.  And then one day we will get to Heaven, and all our tears will be wiped away, and the sorrow will no longer linger and sting… and nothing that happens on this earth can steal that away from us, so even as the world shatters around us, we can cling to that hope.

You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. – Psalm 56:8

I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young. Let him sit alone in silence, for the Lord has laid it on him. Let him bury his face in the dust— there may yet be hope.
